The road to your own record
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.

The city you want to run becomes your next trip.

THE DREAM
An elite marathon in Japan (Category 1) co-hosted with the Mainichi Shimbun.
Runs from Beppu in Oita Prefecture to Oita.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“My time was 2 hours 44 minutes 27 seconds.”
In the runner's first Beppu-Oita Marathon, the runner slowed after 35 km due to headwinds and depleted energy, finishing in 2 hours 44 minutes 27 seconds.

Read the original on note“I toured Osarukan with my wife and also went to see the starting point until just before the start.”
Tanaka Ryo set out from Hokkaido, and after battling bad weather and a flight delay, barely managed to pick up his bib the day before the race. With a noon start, he had time to wait comfortably with his wife, then held his pace through a headwind in the second half to finish. He said he regretted not having more time to sightsee afterward and hoped to visit Yufuin next time.

Read the original on note“I reduced my net time by 1 minute 21 seconds compared with last year, but the result was 24 seconds slower than my season-best time at the Hofu Yomiuri Marathon.”
The runner finished in a gun time of 3 hours 12 minutes 3 seconds and a net time of 3 hours 11 minutes 16 seconds. Rather than trying too hard to overcome the headwind early on, the runner adjusted the pace according to how the runner felt and improved the runner's net time by 1 minute 21 seconds compared with last year.

Clvs1112 ran around 3:55 per kilometer from the start and saw their pace drop after 35K into a headwind, but still set a personal best of 2:46:43.

Battling cold weather, sea winds, and the course's ups and downs, Yuko Takahashi stuck with the lead pack at the Beppu-Oita race. Even after the 35K mark, the crowd support and the atmosphere on the stadium track pushed her to the finish, where she clocked a net time of 3:11:31.

Read the original on note(Yuko Takahashi)“The result was 2 hours 50 minutes 50 seconds (net time: 2 hours 50 minutes 38 seconds), ending as a failed race in which I lost 8 minutes during the final 10km alone.”
pon_roadto6star spent months training for their goal race, but their legs grew heavy after 32K and blisters formed on the soles of their feet, causing a big drop-off over the final 10K. They didn't give up and finished anyway, and reflected on the importance of pacing with a group and dialing in shoes and socks beforehand.

Runners start · local time — Marathon 12:05 (Feb 7, 2027)
The race began in 1952, during the postwar reconstruction years, as the Beppu Marathon.
It was first run over 35 km and switched to the full marathon distance the following year.
Along with Lake Biwa Mainichi and Fukuoka International, it became one of Japan's classic races,
and it's known as a place where newcomers win their first marathon.
The 2027 race is the 75th edition.
The course starts in front of Mount Takasaki and Umitamago in Oita City,
turns around in front of Kamegawa Fishing Port in Beppu, and finishes at J-Lease Stadium.
It's a 42.195 km course certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations,
and for the 65th edition it was changed to cut a dead-end section in Oita City and reduce the elevation change late in the race,
making it well suited to fast times.
There's a time limit at each checkpoint, from 52 minutes at 10 km to 3 hours, 20 minutes at 40 km.
