THE DREAM
Held in Moshi, Tanzania, since 2003.
This is an AIMS-registered, World Athletics-measured race run against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The events are full marathon and half marathon, plus a 5km Fun Run.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“This was my second marathon but my first time running the Kilimanjaro Marathon - and what an experience!”The runner ran the 2025 Kilimanjaro Marathon for the first time. The uphill sections and congestion near the finish were challenging, but the scenery with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background and the atmosphere among the runners were special. The runner plans to do more hill training next time.
“It is still dark as the taxi drops me near the sports stadium. Marathon day is a big deal in Moshi and whilst the numbers for the marathon are modest (around 800), the half is very popular with around 6,000 people and there is a mass-participation 5k fun-run too.”Martin Holt took part in the full marathon at the 2025 Kilimanjaro Marathon. After running a 220K ultra over the previous five days, he rested for a day before setting off again, facing an uphill first 10K along with heat and stomach pain. After the 32K turnaround, he got through the final 10K on music and encouragement, finishing in front of a large crowd at Moshi Stadium.
“The course continues uphill for the first 10 km, so you need to manage this section well.”
They took part in the full marathon in Mosi and enjoyed the farm and village scenery and the children's support. They finished after dealing with early climbs and traffic and congestion near the finish.
