THE DREAM
Held every December in Pisa, Italy, this marathon event includes the full marathon (42.195 km) and the half marathon Pisanina (21.095 km).
The course is certified by AIMS, World Athletics, and FIDAL (the Italian Athletics Federation), and the course passes through central Pisa,
San Rossore Natural Park, and along the Arno River before finishing beneath the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Fields are limited to 2,200 marathon runners and 2,300 half marathon runners.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“Fortunately, my final time was clearly better than the time I ran in Athens a month earlier.”
The author followed the 3-hour-30-minute pacer in the 2025 Pisa Marathon 42.2 km race, walked several times after 30 km because of muscle fatigue and wind, and passed through the finish with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in view.
Quoted from the original · translated
Il tempo finale per mia fortuna è nettamente migliore di quello fatto registrare un mese fa ad Atene.
Read the original on Cronache di Corsa“I finished in 04:09:26, and felt great.”pickupthepacepaul took part in the 2024 Pisa Marathon as a 4 hours 10 minutes pacer and finished in 4 hours 09 minutes 26 seconds. They rated the expo and Packet Pickup as quick and convenient, and rated the flat course, plentiful aid stations, oranges and hot tea, and the finish with views of the Leaning Tower of Pisa positively.
“I was overcome with emotion, and the three of us pacer ran together across the blue carpet through the cheers, crossing the finish in 3 hours 59 minutes 17 seconds.”
The writer ran the Pisa Marathon full marathon in 4 hours pacer, passed the seaside and riverside sections steadily, and crossed the finish in 3 hours 59 minutes 17 seconds with fellow pacer.

Die Emotionen zeigen sich und unter Jubeln laufen wir drei Pacer gemeinsam auf den blauen Teppich und überqueren nach 3:59.17 Std. die Ziellinie.

This marathon runs through the historic heart of Pisa, Italy.
The course goes from the Lungarni along the Arno into central Pisa,
through the old streets and past major historic sites, and finishes beneath the Leaning Tower.
That riverside-to-old-town route to the tower is what defines the race.
Organizers bill the course as fast and full of sights.
It's less a hilly course than a flat city race past monuments and cityscapes,
so it works both for runners chasing a time and for those combining the race with sightseeing.
The 2025 race brought about 20,000 people to Pisa and generated about €2,000,000 for the local economy.
The 2026 race is on December 20, so you'll also catch the city in its Christmas season.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
You must bring a printed or digital confirmation letter and ID.
Under no circumstances will bib or race packs be distributed on race day, 12/20.
Tap your foreign contactless Visa/Mastercard/Amex bank card (or phone/watch with a card loaded) directly on the green 'Tip Tap' validator when boarding any Autolinee Toscane urban bus in Pisa — cheapest and simplest option.
Piazza dei Miracoli (Miracles Square), Pisa — Pisa Centrale railway station is about 2km away
Race starts at Piazza dei Miracoli, finishing next to the Leaning Tower.
Pisa Centrale is ~2km from the start/finish area (per the affiliated Pisa Half Marathon's transport page, covering the same zone).
For 2026 the Expo Village moves to Viale Duomo, right next to the Leaning Tower.
No dedicated race-day shuttle from the station found — described as walkable (~2km) or reachable by local transit/taxi.
Same area, next to the Leaning Tower — ~2km walk/transit back to Pisa Centrale
A bag-storage service (deposito borse) is available on Piazza del Duomo near start/finish until 8:30am race day.
No race-specific shuttle bus (navetta) found.
General city transit: Pisamover automated people-mover connects Pisa Centrale station to Pisa Airport in under 5 minutes (useful for flying in, not last-mile to start).
Parcheggio Scambiatore (Via Pietrasantina) is a park-and-ride lot with a 24-hour shuttle into the city center.
Organizers advise parking away from start/finish to avoid high prices and ZTL (limited traffic zone) restrictions in central Pisa.
A single 90-minute urban ticket is €1.70 if bought via contactless tap or the app;
buying directly from the driver costs more (~€3.00).
Separately, the Pisa Mover people-mover train (connecting Pisa Centrale station to the airport) is a different system — €5 one-way.
CTT Nord no longer exists as an operator (merged into Autolinee Toscane since Nov 2021).
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
As the race takes place on 20 December, prepare winter clothing, while remembering that how warm you feel while running varies from person to person.
Prepare separate clothing for waiting before the start and for removing during the race.
Since the route includes both the riverfront and the city centre,
it is safest to use familiar running shoes and nutrition that you have used in marathons before.
Avoid trying a new gel or drink for the first time at the race.
Consider accommodation with easy access to the Lungarni and the historic centre of Pisa to reduce travel around course.
Since the finish is near the Leaning Tower of Pisa, decide in advance whether to meet near the tower or in the city centre after the race.
Check the Packet Pickup location and time in the participant information, and coordinate your route from the accommodation.
As 20 December is a Sunday, it is more reliable to arrive in Pisa the day before.
Times are local to Pisa. Check the latest official information before the race.
