Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“Now when I’m asked about the Maui marathon, I say it was the most beautiful but brutal marathon I have ever run.”After rain, strong winds, and hills in Maui, the temperature rose sharply, so the runner alternated between running and walking in the second half and finished in 5:50:04.
“I went out too fast though and it killed me.”I ran the 2010 Maui Marathon as my first full marathon. I started too quickly, and the heat and humidity caused me to vomit several times after the halfway point. In the second half, I finished by alternating between running and walking. It was a difficult race, but I was very happy to cross finish, and I later reflected that I had taken part in a fundraising programme for charity with a friend.
“A beautiful, but disappointing race.”bschorr ran the Maui Marathon for the first time in 2008. The point-to-point course from Kahului to Kaanapali and the sunrise scenery were beautiful, but the climbs between miles 8 and 12, the rolling hills that followed, and the heat were tougher than expected. Hydration and fueling didn't go well, so their pace dropped in the second half, and while the expo was small, they found the atmosphere good.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

Runners start · local time — (full marathon, Outrigger Ka'anapali Beach Resort 앞)
The Maui Marathon is a point-to-point course that starts in front of the Outrigger Ka'anapali Beach Resort in Ka'anapali on western Maui and returns to the same location.
It heads south along Highway 30, passing Hanakao'o Park, Wahikuli Park,
Lahaina Cannery Shopping Center, Puamana, Olowalu and Ukumehame before turning around near Papalaua Wayside Park.
The route has long sections beside the ocean and is a flat, fast course, so Boston Marathon qualifying times are accepted.
Its origins lie in the Hawaii A.A.U. Marathon, held on Oahu in the early 1940s.
It adopted the name Maui Marathon in 1974 and is the oldest marathon west of the Mississippi River and the longest-running continuously held running event in Hawaii.
The 2027 event will be the 57th edition.
After the Lahaina wildfire made the former course unusable, the race has used a return course starting and finishing in Ka'anapali since 2024.
About 1,700 people took part in 2025.
At the aid station, runners use SpeedCup, a collapsible reusable cup, instead of paper cups.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
