Milton Keynes Marathon Weekend runner reviews and race reports

Stories from runners who've been there.

From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.

Race reports: 2
Andrew KeirRan in 2022
“We finished with a lap of the stadium, which is always a bonus.”

At the 2022 Milton Keynes Marathon, the runner initially followed the half marathon pacer, then passed through villages, parks, and lakes after the two course split. The winding final stretch was tough, but they appreciated the stadium lap at the finish and the clubmates who had helped with training.

Caroline RobertsonFinish time 4:12:53
“To my relief, I made it over the line in 4.12.53.”

Nausea and breathing trouble made Caroline Robertson consider dropping out of the Milton Keynes Marathon, but she decided to run the entire full marathon. Mixing running and walking, she endured the final climb and finished in 4 hours, 12 minutes, 53 seconds.

We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

More details

Getting to the start

Milton Keynes Central (mainline from London Euston); Bletchley and Fenny Stratford are closer, walkable alternatives

MK Central is about 3 miles from the start/finish at Stadium MK. No free shuttle bus provided — organizers recommend sharing a taxi (~£10, book ahead) or the ~45-minute walk.

Bletchley and Fenny Stratford stations are within walking distance for those staying near those lines. Local buses MK Metro routes X4, 1, 2, plus Sapphire/MAX bus services to MK1, are also options (20-30min).

Getting to the finish

Same as start — Stadium MK/MK1, nearest station Milton Keynes Central (~3 miles)

A designated drop-off/pickup point is on the west side of the stadium outside the Fitness First gym, accessed via Grafton Street off the A5.

Start shuttle

taxi-sharing is the recommended alternative. Organizers place responsibility on runners to plan their own journey.

Transit card

MK Move (All in 1 smart card)

Apply online at getaroundmk.org.uk, or at one of the on-street Ticket Vending Machines across Milton Keynes Works directly at the gates

Alternative: MK Move 1-day pass £6 — Worth it only if taking many trips across both operators in a single day; for a typical 1-3 trip race visit, tapping a contactless bank card each time is simpler. Milton Keynes has no rail/metro/tram system for local transit — it's bus-only, split between two operators (Stagecoach and Arriva), both contactless-enabled.

Cash also still accepted.
