The road to your own record

The city you want to run becomes your next trip.

THE DREAM
The 11th edition takes place on October 25, 2026, organized by the Mito Komon Manyu Marathon Executive Committee,
the Ibaraki Athletics Association and the City of Mito.
The only event is the 42.195 km marathon.
The field is capped at 10,000 (including 2,000 priority spots for Mito residents and 200 for medical workers),
and the Entry fee is 10,000 yen (7,000 yen for medical workers).
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“It was an excellent race, with constant support, generous aid stations, and even a thoughtfully prepared finisher's memento.”
A Mito full marathon participant reflected on traveling by train on race day and the decline in pace after early congestion and running too fast, while praising the aid stations and support.

途切れることのない応援、豊富なエイドと参加賞など、至れり尽くせりで素晴らしい大会でした。
Read the original on kanan5.hatenablog.com“It was 3 hours 35 minutes 15 seconds.”
Congestion in the first 5 km made them drop their sub-3:30 goal and settle into an easy pace. Lake Senba and the steep final climb were hard, but they finished moved by the generous aid stations, the crowds and the cheering in the tunnel at 39 km.
Quoted from the original · translated
“I finished chip time in 2 hours 58 minutes 7 seconds, with a total time of 2 hours 58 minutes 16 seconds.”
Aiming for sub-3, they started in Corral A and built their pace in the first half. Their legs got heavy on the climbs after 30 km and along Lake Senba, but the cheering in the 39 km tunnel and an all-out sprint over the final 2 km got them home, and they received the inro-shaped finisher medal.

A participant's-eye guide to the 2025 Mito Komon Manyu Marathon: getting to the start and finish, toilets and bag check, course and aid stations. The historic streets, crowd support and generous finisher perks stood out, and it also covers the rolling sections and getting around after finish.

Read the original on tomorunblog.com“Full marathon is difficult!”
They ran the 9th Mito Komon Manyu Marathon full marathon on October 27, 2024, finishing in 3:07:14. They were aiming for 2:52, but their pace dropped after the rolling sections, and leg cramps forced them to stop just before 40 km and again in the final 500 m. The cheering by the lake and in the tunnel kept them going, and once the pain eased they ran again to finish their 29th full marathon.

フルマラソンは難しいですね!
Read the original on note“This was another race where the support from the spectators helped me.”
On an unseasonably warm day at the Mito full marathon, they reined in a fast early pace and held on for a sub-4. The overpass around 37 km was tough, but the huge cheers in the tunnel revived them, and they powered up the steep final climb to finish in 3:52:25 net.

Runners start · local time — (full marathon, 42.195 km)
The course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations and World Athletics.
The only event is the 42.195 km marathon,
which starts at 9 a.m. at the Minami-cho 2-chome intersection (南町2丁目交差点, Minami-cho 2-chome, Mito) and finishes at the main gate of the Ibaraki Prefectural Sannomaru Government Building (茨城県三の丸庁舎正門, Sannomaru 1-chome, Mito).
The course passes historic buildings, Kairakuen — one of Japan's three great gardens — and the shore of Lake Senba in fall colors.
Organizers say the course roads are wide enough for even the last corral to get going quickly and that the course roads are closed to everyone but runners,
and that late in the race you exit a tunnel and climb a hill onto the finishing straight.
The time limit is 6 hours gun time, with five cut-off point: cut-off point 1 at the mark about 9.5 km in (10:40),
cut-off point 2 at the mark about 19.7 km in (12:10),
cut-off point 3 at the mark about 29.2 km in (13:30),
cut-off point 4 at the mark about 33.4 km in (14:00) and cut-off point 5 at the mark about 38.5 km in (14:30).
There are three DNF points: around 12.6 km, around 25.1 km, and around 33.5 km/36.5 km (at either the entrance or exit of the Lake Senba section).
Runners are placed in six corral s, A through F, by the finish time declared at entry, whether or not they are registered with the federation;
if you don't declare a time, you generally start in the last corral.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.

Safety pins are not included, so bring a bib holder.
If you forget your bib on race day, you can get a replacement for a fee (¥2,000) at the information desk until 08:45, 15 minutes before the start.
Bibs and timing chips will be shipped in advance by mid-October
