“The rain kept falling, but I made up for my limited warm-up before the start, hit 30:00 for the split, and my calf felt fine.”

Gerson Narezi started the Volta Internacional da Pampulha worried about a calf injury, but ran alongside an experienced companion around the lake in the rain. Muscle pain and soaked shoes made the later stages difficult, yet he finished in 1 hour 43 minutes 48 seconds and enjoyed the challenge of distance racing.

Start line is located next to Mineirão Stadium (Estagio Gobernador Magalhães Pinto),

at the intersection of Antonio Abrahao Carran Avenue and Coronel Óscar Pascoao Avenue.

This stadium is the home stadium of Cruzeiro Sports Club and also hosted soccer matches at the 2013 Confederations Cup, 2014 World Cup, and 2016 Rio Olympics.

Course is 18.079km, which circles Pampulla Lake along Otasiliu Negran de Lima Boulevard,

and is a unique distance that is shorter than the typical half marathon and longer than 10km.

On the road surrounding the lake is the Pampulya modern architectural complex designed by Oscar Niemeyer.

The building that was built as a casino and is now used as the Pampulla Art Museum, the Casa do Baili, which was a ballroom,

and the Sao Francisco de Assis Cathedral run along the lakeside, and this architectural complex was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016.

The 2026 competition will be the 27th.

The 18.5km route loops the Pampulha lagoon and finishes back at the start area beside the Mineirão.

More details

Per prior editions (not yet confirmed for 2026 specifically): a special race-day city bus line ran to the venue with stops at Estação UFMG,

Praça Sete, and Savassi, at roughly 15-minute intervals, payable via BHBus card, the BHBus+ app QR code, or cash.

Belo Horizonte's transit authority (BHTrans) and police run a traffic operation around the Pampulha lagoon on race morning, closing roads along the route.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

There are six aid stations in total, located at 3.5 km, 7 km, 10 km, 13 km, 16 km, and the finish.

The early sections mainly offer water, while sports drinks and snacks are added at the later aid stations.

The time limit is 2 hours 30 minutes.

Participants whose pace falls below the required standard at an intermediate checkpoint may be directed onto an alternative route.

Athletes in the elite category are prohibited from using wireless communication or audio devices during the race.

The start is divided by category.

The elite category starts at 5:57–5:58 a.m., the general group at 6:00 a.m., followed by waves at 6:07 a.m. and 6:15 a.m.

BIBs must be collected in advance from December 3 to 5, three days before the race, at Power Shopping Center Minas.

The original photo ID and proof of payment are required.

Race-day collection is not available.

Belo Horizonte is an inland city located 500 km from the Atlantic Ocean at an elevation of 852 m, and has a tropical savanna climate (Köppen Aw).
