THE DREAM
This is one of North Carolina's signature point-to-point trail events.
It runs from Pilot Mountain to Hanging Rock.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“The surrounding scenery took my mind off the unpleasantness of these massive stone steps.”At the Pilot Mountain to Hanging Rock 50-miler, aid and a gear change helped the runner regain strength after stone steps and long climbs. A faster late descent brought third place overall in 8 hours 53 minutes 41.9 seconds.
“His gesture really saved my race.”Brent Herring fell on a technical downhill and suffered cramps, but recovered with help and refreshments and won the PM2HR 50K.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

RACE WEEK
Know the course and time limit, and race day comes into focus.
From the 2026 edition
