From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I felt ecstatic as I reached the final 5-mile downhill stretch toward the youth center.”Brian Johnson walked long stretches of the Shiprock Marathon because of altitude, big hills and severe blisters. He rallied on the final descent to finish and reach his goal of a 50th marathon.
“My Garmin has my final time as 2:07:52, but I think my official time was a 2:09.”The runner aimed to break 2 hours at the Sinlock Half Marathon, but went too fast on the early downhill and struggled with nausea and vomiting in the second half. Looking back, the runner realized that focusing so much on their time had narrowed their perspective on the experience, and felt the need for better mental preparation.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

The event features local musicians performing Navajo blues, traditional music, country and classic rock.
The organizer guides the cast, including Dark Sky and Red Hawk, and explains that the music continues from course.
Local culture through lace is juxtaposed with natural scenery.
A separate Elder Run was prepared as Fun Run to dedicate to the adults in the community.
The relay runs on a loop connecting the trails towards Blueberry Hill and Rattlesnake.
In addition to full marathon, we expanded Shiprok's Running into a community event by including events tailored to each generation and participation method.
