Songkhla Marathon runner reviews and race reports

Stories from those who ran it first.

From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.

Race reports: 2
CRan in 2022 · Finish time 5:07
“I resumed my 7min/km pace for the remaining 12KM and finished in 5:07.”

The runner approached the Songkhla Marathon as an easy long run, but overeating before the start led to a search for a toilet and a slower pace from 22km. After resolving the problem around 30km, the runner resumed running and finished in 5 hours 7 minutes, calling it the most memorable race.

SofianRan in 2011 · Finish time 4:17:51
“We ran over two lengthy bridges, which was actually the nicest part of the run.”

He started at 4 a.m. and ran a mostly flat out-and-back course. Maintaining the pace in the second half was difficult, but he held on to the end and improved on his previous Perth time by about one minute.

We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

Tinsulanonda Stadium, Chalathat Road, Songkhla (Black Patio Chairs plaza) - start and finish same venue

Race venue location per Google Maps link on official site; no separate transit/access instructions beyond this address. No shuttle bus service, road-closure/traffic-control text, or walking-distance figures found on official site (Race Schedule and Course Map sections are image-only, not extractable).

IC card

Songkhla has no formal public transit network — local mobility runs on songthaews (shared covered pickup trucks) that circulate town for ~12 baht, with motorcycle taxis around 20 baht; fares roughly double after dark. No reloadable card or digital payment option exists — everything is cash.

Songthaews to nearby Ko Yo/Sathing Phra run from Chana Road near the clock tower, ~15 baht, every 30 min (07:30-17:30).

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

The event is held over two days: Fun Run takes place on Saturday, August 22, while the marathon,

half marathon and mini-marathon events, including the 5K and 10K, are held on Sunday, August 23.

Songkhla in August has an average high of 33.3°C, an average low of 25.1°C and average monthly rainfall of 137.8mm,

placing it within the wet season of the tropical monsoon climate.

The heaviest rain in this area usually falls from October to December, however, so August is relatively drier.

Even so, the combination of heat and humidity makes an early start and a hydration plan important.

Because course passes both lake and pond sections and coastal roads, surface and wind conditions may vary between urban and waterside stretches.

Prepare pace accordingly.

The finish is close to Samila Beach, allowing runners to rest there soon after the event.

Times are local to Songkhla. Check the latest official information before the race.
