The road to your own record
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.

The city you want to run becomes your next trip.
THE DREAM
Held in Stavanger, Norway.
The events are 5km, half marathon, and full marathon.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“Although it did not rain, my time shows that the running conditions that day were extremely tough.”
The high humidity made it harder than usual for the runner to achieve a good time, and the runner shared detailed impressions of the city-centre start and finish, pacemakers, the crowd atmosphere, and even their thoughts on changing the course.

Regnet holdt seg unna men sluttider fra dagens løp tyder på meget tunge løpsforhold.
Read the original on Spirit Friidrett“My goal for the final 1 km was to finish in the 3-hour-35-minute range.”
In 2016, Trude ran the hilly course at the Stavanger Marathon. She set a personal best of 3:35:57 after getting through two big climbs and the incline in the final kilometer, and wrote that the lack of flat sections made it hard to post a good time.
Quoted from the original · translated
Den siste kilometeren dreide seg om å rekke 3.35-tallet.
Read the original on Trudes trening“To establish a strategy in advance worked out good this time as always.”The runner entered the 2010 race with a plan to finish in 3:45. On the course, which goes around Mosvannet and Store Stokkavann, they maintained their early pace, but stomach pain and a stop at an aid station cost them time. Even so, they set a personal best in 3 hours 46 minutes 21 seconds and finished first in their age group and fourth overall.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

From the 2026 editionWe have not confirmed the start line coordinates yet. The map shows the host city.
The Stavanger Marathon is held in central Stavanger in southwestern Norway and organized by the local athletics club GTI Friidrettsklubb.
The 2027 race is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, starting downtown at 9 a.m., with a marathon, half marathon, 5K and kids' races.
The marathon and half marathon start in front of Stavanger Cathedral and finish at the same spot,
while the 5K starts from the bike path next to Mariero station and runs the last 5km of the marathon into the city center.
The marathon loops around three lakes and follows Hafrsfjord and Gandsfjorden.
Just over half is asphalt and the rest is easy-running gravel, with about 280m of total climb.
The half marathon passes Mosvatnet lake and the Sverd i fjell (Swords in Rock) monument on the shore of Hafrsfjord,
then returns along Gandsfjorden on bike paths.
The half marathon is 80 percent asphalt with about 130m of climb.
In 2025 about 4,300 runners took part across all races, with the half marathon the biggest at 2,400.
That year the time limit was 6 hours for the marathon and 3 hours 30 minutes for the half marathon.
The course records are 2:33:03 for the marathon (2024) and 1:05:20 for the half marathon (2025).
In the marathon, pacers run every 15 minutes from 3:30 to 4:30, and in the half marathon every 5 minutes from 1:20 to 2:30.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Collection is also available at the hotel on Saturday morning, race day.
Required documents and whether proxy collection is permitted have not been confirmed.

Marathon/Half Marathon/Children's races start at Domkirkeplassen (square in front of Stavanger Cathedral/Kongsgård), central Stavanger. 5km race starts separately at Mariero (train station), running the last 5km of the marathon course
Official site recommends arriving on foot or by bike rather than car. For the 5km start at Mariero, the site recommends the train explicitly.
Race date confirmed Sat 29 Aug 2026, 08:45 start.
same as marathon/half start — city centre outside Stavanger Cathedral/Kongsgård (Domkirkeplassen)
Bag/luggage tent outside Kongsgård school near finish; free showers at Stavanger Svømmehall. For 5km, gear dropped at Mariero start is van-transported to the city-centre finish (gear only).
Kolumbuskort (Kolumbus Card)
NOK 50, buy at customer service centres, on board buses/ferries, Narvesen kiosks, Entur at Stavanger train station, or order online Not accepted at the gates — get the local card above
Alternative: 24-hour ticket / 7-day pass NOK 120 (24-hour), NOK 310 (7-day) — Worth buying if taking 3+ rides in a day (a single central-zone ride is NOK 45) or need multiple days around a race weekend; skip it for just one or two trips. Kolumbus's own site explicitly states you cannot pay with VISA, MasterCard, or similar bank cards on the bus — this contradicts some third-party travel blogs claiming contactless tap works.
Cash IS accepted on board but with a surcharge (~NOK 20 for adults). Bank cards do work at ticket machines and kiosks, just not on the vehicle itself.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
Bib pickup is at the Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel in the city center;
take the stairs behind reception.
Based on the latest information, it's open 10:30 a.m.–7:15 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Bib transfers are allowed within the same race, and you can switch to a shorter distance but not a longer one.
At the 2025 race, the bag drop tent for marathon and half marathon runners was set up outside Kongsgård school,
and 5K runners' bags were driven from the start to the city center.
The marathon has 9 aid stations, spaced 3–5km apart, serving water, sports drink,
bananas, doughnuts and gluten-free muffins, and there are 8 toilets around the course.
The half marathon has 5.
The organizers advise holding back early on, since the climbs are concentrated before you reach Mosvatnet lake.
Stavanger in August averages a low of 12.7°C and a high of 18.9°C, so it's cool,
but with 130mm of rain and around 14 wet days in the month, be ready for wet gravel.
Stavanger Sola Airport is 11km southwest of the city center, and the Flybussen airport bus runs into town.
Mariero station, where the 5K starts, can be reached by train.
Times are local to Stavanger. Check the latest official information before the race.
