Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I’m currently studying in Sweden for the fall semester, and decided that spending my time here training for a marathon…”The writer prepared for and took part in the 2024 Uppsala Marathon as their first marathon, recording the local scenery and their experiences during the race.
“It was truly beautiful and enjoyable throughout the run.”
Returning to racing after almost four years away, Ann-Sofie Forsmark had originally signed up for the marathon but, underprepared, ran the half course on the day instead. She didn't track her time and took it slow while enjoying the scenery, though her legs stiffened up on the asphalt over the final 6K. She finished in 2:21 after the climbs and stairs by the fortress, and said what she was proudest of wasn't the result but running at a pace that matched how she felt, all the way to the end.

Det var verkligen fint och härligt att springa.
Read the original on Runner's World Sverige“Although my average pace over the final 2km was a disappointing 4 minutes 22 seconds, I finished in 7th place in 2 hours 46 minutes 26 seconds.”
The runner placed seventh at the 2021 Uppsala Marathon with a time of 2:46:26. The gravel roads, bridges, climbs and descents, and the steps just before the finish were more challenging than expected, but the runner had a good race while running through the coastal and old-town sections. The runner identified baggage storage and on-site registration as areas for improvement.

Snittet sista två km blev 4:22 vilket såklart inte var önskvärt men gick i mål på en sjundeplats och tiden 2:46:26.

Both the marathon and half marathon start and finish at Uppsala Castle.
The marathon is a one-lap course that passes Lake Ekoln and the Fyris River waterfront,
through central Uppsala and to the royal burial mounds at Gamla Uppsala, a site dating from the Viking Age, before returning.
Half marathon follows the same route as the latter part of the marathon, passing through the pedestrian streets in the city center,
Svartbäcken and the northern bank of the Fyris River before heading to the burial mounds.
Course ranges from 1 to 42 meters above sea level, with 209 meters of total ascent and 203 meters of descent.
Asphalt and firmly packed gravel each account for approximately half of the route,
and some sections were adjusted in 2026 to reduce runners passing each other and other traffic.
The marathon time limit is 7 hours, and you must pass the half marathon point within 3 hours 30 minutes.
Results have been recorded since 2017, and in 2026 the event also hosts the regional marathon championships of the Mittsvenska Athletics Association.
