RACE WEEK

Flat forest-road course; 2 laps for the 50K and 1 lap for the 25K
Located in Cary State Forest near Jacksonville, outside Bryceville, Florida, the Angry Tortoise 25K/50K is a trail race through flat pine flatwoods terrain.
Course consists entirely of Forest Service-owned forest roads rather than paved surfaces,
and some sections reportedly have deep rutting that requires watching your footing.
The 50K is structured as two laps of four radiating segments (roughly 5-8km each) branching out from a central aid station,
while the 25K covers these segments just once.
Thanks to its flat course with almost no elevation change and generous aid support,
it's often cited as a good introductory course for runners taking on their first trail or ultra race.
The 2027 race marks its 14th anniversary.
With a generous 8-hour time limit, a post-race lunch, and free hot showers in the restrooms near the start/finish,
it's known for taking care of runners' comfort even after they finish.

Awards go to the overall top 3 as well as Masters (40-49), Grandmasters (50-69),
and Senior Grandmasters (70+) categories for both men and women, and finishers receive lunch.
Since the course is entirely forest roads, trail shoes are recommended, and caution is advised as some sections reportedly have deep rutting.
The restrooms at the start/finish in Cary State Forest offer free hot showers.
