The Asuwa River Fureai Marathon (Asuwa River Fureai Marathon) is a local race along the river in Fukui, Japan.
Course follows the Kita district and the banks of the Asuwa River,
with the organisers aiming to create an event where everyone can finish at their own pace beside the river in late autumn.
Fureai means meeting and interacting with others.
The event guidelines state at the outset that the race aims to broaden connections through running beyond the boundaries of the local community.
The Asuwa Welfare Association, a social welfare corporation, organises the event, while the Fukui City Association of Athletics operates the race.
Its purpose is to deepen understanding of social welfare and create opportunities for volunteers by combining running participation with volunteer activities.
Rather than focusing solely on competitors’ times,
the event connects its name and purpose by bringing participants and the people supporting the operation together to build local connections.
The events reflect that approach.
They include the adult half marathon, short-distance races for elementary and junior-high school students,
an event for parents and young children to run together, and Fun Run.
With different ages and ways of running represented within the same event, families and local groups have more opportunities to take part together.
The programme does not measure long-distance and children’s events against the same standard.
The riverside scenery,
intergenerational participation and local character come together to create a late-autumn Fukui race centred on both achievement and connection.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Details on registration and athlete bibs could not be confirmed in the publicly available information.
Since advance mailing or same-day collection is common for races in Japan, check the event guide (participant notification).

Fukui Station (福井駅)
Start area is along the Asuwa River near Fukui city center. From Fukui Station East Exit: ~8 minutes by taxi, or ~30 minutes on foot.

Applications for participation are accepted through RUNNET or the competition executive committee secretariat.
In addition to the half marathon and 10km (high school students and older), 5km (middle school students and older),
and 3km (elementary school students and older), there are a variety of events available,
including the 1.8km parent-child division (1st and 2nd grade, 3rd and 4th grade elementary school students), 1.1km parent-child division (preschoolers ages 4 to 6),
and 1.1km Fun Run, making it suitable for families to participate.
A feature of this competition is that all participants, including those using wheelchairs or strollers,
as well as those running in costumes, are welcome, and the famous red bean porridge (zenzai) is provided free of charge at the finish line.
Shinobu Kubota, a runner who was active in Ekiden (Relay), is scheduled to participate as a guest in this competition.
Times are local to Fukui. Check the latest official information before the race.
