in connection with the 50th National Sports Festival, for 13 September 2026 at Galle Face Green.

This is a different event from the LSR Colombo Marathon, a separately organized race run by private operator Lanka Sportreizen on 4 October.

We have not confirmed the start line coordinates yet. The map shows the host city.

A Cabinet Office press release dated 7 September 2026 says the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Department of Sports Development planned to hold Colombo Marathon–2026 at Galle Face Green on 13 September,

with full, half, 10km and 5km fun run events.

The event’s official .lk website also lists a separate 1.5km Kids Run.

Bib pickup for the 42/21/10km bib was scheduled for 12 September at the Race Course Grand Stand from 10:00–15:00;

5km registration and bib pickup were scheduled for race day at Baladaksha Mawatha Car Park from 03:30–05:30.

Entry fees and course details could not be verified.

Free public transitBib pickup venues are separate from start/finish and should not be used to infer event course endpoints.
Transit cardPlan to pay cash in small Sri Lankan rupee notes directly to the bus conductor once aboard — there is no citywide reloadable transit card, and contactless bank-card payment is still only a limited pilot on a few inter-provincial express routes, not something you can rely on.

Getting to the start

The Cabinet Office placed the planned event at Galle Face Green; official registration materials do not publish race-day public transit or shuttle directions. Bib pickup venues are separate from start/finish and should not be used to infer event course endpoints.

Transit card

Colombo's public buses and trains are pay-as-you-go with cash. A government pilot launched Nov 2025 lets tap-and-pay by Visa/Mastercard on select inter-provincial express routes, with plans to expand across Western Province buses by end of 2026, but this is not yet a general system tourists should count on.

2026 Packet Pickup

The official registration notice outlined separate procedures for the 42K, 21K, 10K and 5K.

42K, 21K and 10K: Saturday 12 September, 10:00–15:00, Race Course Grand Stand, Colombo 7.
5K Fun Run: Sunday 13 September, 03:30–05:30, race-day registration and Packet Pickup at Baladaksha Mawatha Car Park.
You were advised to bring valid ID and registration details; Sri Lankan entrants need an original medical report.

The current official event overview lists medical support and aid station.

The organizer's website describes medical support and hydration stations throughout course.
The available notices did not confirm the water-station intervals, start time, or time limit for each race distance.

Identifying the two Colombo marathons

They share the same name, but have different organizers, dates, and official websites.

This packet is for the 13 September event at Galle Face Green, planned by the Ministry/Department alongside the National Sports Festival.
The separate LSR race is run by Lanka Sportreizen. Its website lists the event date as 4 October and says it has been organizing the race since 1998.
The Entry fee, schedules, and registration for the two races are separate and do not apply to each other.
