From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I said I wasn’t going to stop.”
Isa drew strength from two companions’ stories and encouragement on a first attempt at Lisbon’s half marathon, starting on the Vasco da Gama Bridge. Despite late fatigue, Isa ran without stopping or walking and crossed finish hand in hand with them in 2 hours 32 minutes 39 seconds.

Navegante (Viva Viagem) card
Green vending machines at any Metro station (card costs €0.50, then load with Zapping credit or a pass) Works directly at the gates
Alternative: 24-hour unlimited pass (loaded onto Navegante card) ~€7.00 (city network only; ~€11.00 if including Sintra/Cascais suburban trains) — Worth it if you'll take 4+ rides in a day, since Zapping/pay-as-you-go on the card (€1.72/ride) is cheaper per-ride than contactless bank card tap (€1.92/ride). Contactless bank card tap works at metro gates and on some buses/trams, charging the full single-ride fare each time with no cap.
The Navegante card is cheaper per ride and required if you want the 24h unlimited pass. Accepted contactless cards: Visa, VPay, Electron, Mastercard.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The race starts at 9:20am from the Vasco da Gama Bridge.
Since this is later than the EDP Lisbon Marathon the previous day, which starts at 8am, runners begin in warmer conditions.
In October, Lisbon's average daytime high is around 23°C, with lows of 12~13°C.
The Mediterranean climate brings many dry days, but temperatures have exceeded 30°C during the day, so plan your hydration for the late-morning start.
This half marathon marathon, together with the EDP Lisbon Marathon, is regarded as a course that has held International Association of Athletics Federations —
now World Athletics — Gold Standard certification.
The non-competitive EDP 8K also starts from the same location at the same time.
Times are local to Lisbon. Check the latest official information before the race.
