“I'm feeling good. It isn't easy, but I'm okay.”

At Paris–Versailles, conserving energy over the opening 6 km let the runner gain places on the Côte des Gardes and the forest descents. There was nothing left for a finishing sprint, but the official 1 hour 5 minutes 6 seconds marked a substantial personal improvement.

“I'm so proud that I did it, and that I got up the hills without walking.”

At Paris–Versailles, the runner stayed with companions and climbed the Côte des Gardes and later hills without walking. Despite heat and heavy legs, forest shade and descents helped deliver a finish in 1 hour 37 minutes 29 seconds.

Paris-Versailles, known as the Grande Classique, is a 16.2 km point-to-point road race.

It starts on Quai Jacques Chirac (formerly Quai Branly) at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and finishes in front of 51 avenue de Paris,

facing the Palace of Versailles.

The 2027 race, the 48th edition, is on Sunday, September 26.

The first 5 km or so follows the Seine along Quai de Grenelle, through the André Citroën underpass,

over the Pont du Garigliano, and along the riverbank in Issy-les-Moulineaux.

At the 6 km mark, the climb up Meudon's Côte des Gardes begins—more than 2 km long with grades up to 9 percent, it's the hardest part of the race.

From 8 to 10 km, the route follows the Route Royale through the Meudon forest,

then passes through Vélizy and Viroflay before the final 2 km along the wide, straight avenue de Paris to the palace.

The finish sits more than 100 meters higher than the start line.

The priority corral goes at 10 a.m., followed from 10:01 a.m. by waves of 300 runners every minute, lined up first come, first served.

Everyone must cross the start line by 11 a.m., and the finish closes at 1:30 p.m. Water is available at 5.4 km, 8.4 km,

and 13.4 km and after the finish, and 23 bands play along the course.

The race has drawn about 25,000 runners every year since 2013, and 23,340 crossed the finish line at the 47th edition in 2026.

Stations & transport near the venue

Buy a reloadable Navigo Easy card (€2) at any metro/RER ticket window or tabac and load it with t+ tickets or a Paris Visite pass — as of 2026 you generally can't just tap a foreign bank card at metro gates, though open contactless payment is being rolled out gradually across buses.

Getting to the start

RER C 'Pont de l'Alma' or Metro 'Bir-Hakeim' (M6)/'Trocadéro' (M6,M9)/'Alma-Marceau' (M9)

Start at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, Quai Jacques Chirac;

locker check opens 08:15, wave starts 10:00-11:00.

Getting to the finish

'Versailles Château Rive Gauche' (RER C) closest to finish (~10min walk); 'Versailles Chantiers' or 'Versailles Rive Droite' as alternatives

Finish faces the Château de Versailles after a 16.2km point-to-point route through Issy-les-Moulineaux, Meudon, Chaville, Vélizy-Villacoublay, Viroflay.

More details

No organizer shuttle — point-to-point race relying on Paris's dense RER/train network at both ends.

Bib pickup at Cité des Sports, Issy-les-Moulineaux beforehand.

IC card

Navigo Easy

RATP/Ile-de-France Mobilites ticket counters and vending machines at metro and RER stations, and RATP partner shops (tabacs, newsstands, some corner stores)

Not accepted at the gates — get the local card above

Alternative: Paris Visite pass €30.60 for 1 day, €45.40 for 2 days, €63.80 for 3 days, €78 for 5 days (zones 1-5, includes both airports) —

Only worth it if you need unlimited travel across all zones (e.g. both airports, Versailles, Disneyland) in a short trip;

for typical inner-city sightseeing, loading individual t+ tickets or a cheaper multi-day pass onto Navigo Easy usually costs less.

More details

Direct 'tap and go' with a contactless bank card is not available network-wide on the Paris metro.

Buses are already partially equipped, with full Paris and inner-suburb bus coverage targeted by the end of August 2026.

The published rollout schedule is: Orly-Line 14 airport link 30 June 2026, Montmartre funicular July 2026, Metro Line 1 July 2027, Lines 4/14/15/18 end of 2027, Lines 7/12 end of 2028, and the full network by 2030.

Journeys paid by bank card cost more than standard fares (a 50-80 cent surcharge) and do not include free transfers -- each validation is charged separately.

A Navigo Easy card can't be shared between travelers -- one per person.

You can also skip the physical card entirely and buy/store tickets in the Ile-de-France Mobilites or Bonjour RATP phone app.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Registration for 2026 opened at 10 a.m. on April 11, and all 25,000 bib numbers were gone in less than four days.

You must pick up your bib ahead of time at the Cité des Sports in Issy-les-Moulineaux;

there's no pickup on race-day Sunday.

About 10 days before the race, you'll get a Packet Pickup guide by email.

The course climbs for much of the way from the Eiffel Tower to the Palace of Versailles, so the finish sits more than 100 meters higher than the start.

The Côte des Gardes stands out: a 2.2 km climb averaging 7 percent.

Times are local to Paris. Check the latest official information before the race.
