“I traveled to Seoul to take part in the Seoul Race, my first half marathon event of the second half of the year.”

The writer took part in the 2025 Seoul Race half marathon and experienced overcast, humid weather, gentle elevation changes, frequent aid station, and crowded event operations. They wrote that their energy started to fade from 18 km, but they achieved their goal of breaking into the 1:45 range.

“I ran at a fairly relaxed pace.”

With a full marathon the following week, the runner ran the Seoul Race half marathon at a relaxed pace. The runner captured views of Gwanghwamun, Jongno, and Cheonggyecheon on a phone, and felt tired after finishing because of the humid weather and poor condition.

“Thanks to the spectators along the course calling out my name when I was exhausted, I was able to finish.”

Starting the half marathon from Group C with insufficient training, the runner’s body felt heavy from the beginning, but the support along the course gave them strength to finish. The runner was impressed by the flat course and smooth race operations, and set a new best with a time of 2:02:43.

“Whoa hahaha, I finished with a 1:51:03 PB~~!!”

The runner set the Seoul Race half marathon as the main goal and increased training volume, setting a personal best of 1 hour 51 minutes 3 seconds. During the race, the runner looked at the watch pace and thought 1 hour 49 minutes would be achieved, but later reflected that the expected result was missed because of a distance discrepancy.

“The crowd support during the Seoul Race really kept me going.”

The runner entered the Seoul Race as their first half marathon and controlled their own pace because there was no pacemaker available. The runner enjoyed the mostly flat course, apart from the area near Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the crowd support helped through the tough final section as the runner finished in 1:54:10.

Start line is Sejong-daero in front of Cheonggye Plaza, and course passes through central Seoul before finishing on Mugyo-ro.

Half marathon consists of 21.0975km, while the 11km course is 11km.

Both the start and finish are in central Seoul, making it easy to plan your route,

but with 12,000 participants starting together, it is important early on to match your start group with your own pace.

The field is limited to 8,500 participants for half marathon and 3,500 for the 11km, so half marathon has more participants.

The cut-off for half marathon time limit is 2 hours 30 minutes, while the 11km time limit has a cut-off of 1 hour 40 minutes.

Half marathon Entry fee costs 80,000 KRW, while the 11km costs 70,000 won,

and both course have a participant condition requiring runners to run without assistive equipment.

The distance through central Seoul, the field size, and the time limit for each course define the basic character of this event.
