Starting in Courmayeur, runners cross dozens of passes at around 3,000 m, pass through 6 life bases and return to Courmayeur,

deciding for themselves when and how long to rest and sleep within the time limit of 150 hours.

“Just such an enormous experience, with so much gratitude for being able to enjoy it”

After nearly 3 years of preparation, he took on the challenge to mark turning forty, battling sleep management, heat, lightning and long descents to finish 84th in 110 hours 27 minutes. The story also covers his long stop at the first life base, Valgrisenche, to recover.

“It’s truly amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it and train a bit!”

The runner won an entry through the lottery and describes running all seven sections with a friend. Despite extreme fatigue and lack of sleep, she finished as ninth woman and says she wants to come back.

Tor des Géants is a race that circles the entire Aosta Valley in northwestern Italy by linking the high-altitude loop trails Alta Via 1 and 2.

It started in 2010, and today VDA Trailers stages five events under the TORX name in the same week: TOR450, TOR330, TOR130, TOR100 and TOR30.

The flagship TOR330 starts in Courmayeur at the foot of Mont Blanc,

passes through Gran Paradiso National Park and Mont Avic Natural Park, and returns to Courmayeur.

Despite the name 330, the actual distance according to the 2026 section table is 336.5 km with about 26,000 m of elevation gain,

and the highest point is Col Loson at 3,295 m.

It is a single-stage race with no set rest periods;

runners rely on aid stations every 7–10 km and the 6 life bases at Valgrisenche,

Cogne, Donnas, Gressoney, Valtournenche and Ollomont for hot meals, showers and sleep.

The start is split into two groups leaving on Sunday at 10 a.m. and 12 noon, and the time limit is 150 hours.

The same week also features TOR450, a roughly 450 km loop that is close to self-supported, TOR130 starting in Gressoney,

TOR100 starting in Breuil-Cervinia and TOR30 starting in Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses, all finishing in Courmayeur.

The field is capped at 1,100 for TOR330, 200 for TOR450 and 500 each for the other events.

Getting to the start

Courmayeur bus station (Piazzale Monte Bianco)

The start on Viale Monte Bianco is a short walk from Courmayeur's bus terminal and town centre. Courmayeur sits at the head of the Aosta Valley, reached by road via Aosta (A5 motorway) or from Chamonix through the Mont Blanc Tunnel.

The nearest major airports are Turin, Milan Malpensa and Geneva. Check Mont Blanc Tunnel closures before travelling: the organiser flags total closures between September and December 2026.

The finish area at Jardin de l'Ange is in central Courmayeur, walking distance from the bus terminal and the Forum Sport Center.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Entry to TOR330 is by lottery.

Early in the year (1–14 February for the 2026 edition) you must pre-register on the TORX eXperience portal and pay 10 euros to enter the draw;

if selected, you receive an email by the end of February and must pay the Entry fee of 990 euros between 1 and 15 March to confirm.

Tidy up your portal profile before registration opens, as it cannot be edited afterwards.

There are country quotas: at least 2 runners are drawn from each country, and Italians make up no more than 30% of the field.

Korean runners can also earn a PAX by finishing the Ulju Trail 9 Peaks.

There are no qualifying requirements, but you must be at least 20 years old, and experience of multi-day races of 100 km or more is strongly recommended.

A medical certificate for competitive sport must be uploaded to the portal by 1 August, and international runners must use the official form.

The bib can only be collected in person with photo ID;

in 2026 it was handed out at the Forum Sport Center in Courmayeur on the Saturday before the start from 10:00 to 18:00 and on race morning from 7:00 to 9:00.

Mandatory gear includes a cup, a mobile phone that is always on,

ID and health insurance documents, 2 survival blankets, 2 headlamps with spare batteries, and water and food.

A warm jacket, waterproof jacket and trousers, gloves, a hat covering the ears, anti-slip traction devices with spikes of at least 8 mm,

a first-aid kit and a power bank can be kept in your life-base bag, but organisers will require you to carry them if the weather turns bad.

Personal assistance from 1 person is allowed only in designated areas at aid stations and life bases, and pacer is prohibited.

You may rest for a maximum of 2 hours at each aid station, and each life base has a time limit for both arrival and departure.

Planning in advance where and how long you will sleep is the key to finishing.

Life-base bags are carried to the next base by the organisers, so do not hang anything on the outside of the bag.

Times are local to Courmayeur. Check the latest official information before the race.
