THE DREAM
Memorial Day Weekend Marathon in Burlington, Vermont. Hosted by RunVermont.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“Despite the drama early in the race, I am happy with how the execution went.”Jim changed shoes after early calf pain at the Vermont City Marathon, then caught up with his companions. Maintaining pace through rain and headwinds brought a net time of 2 hours 57 minutes 26 seconds and Boston qualification.
“DNFing is part of our sport, not every race is going to be perfect.”Sun and humidity triggered asthma symptoms that stopped the Vermont City Marathon participant midrace. Family comfort helped them accept that every race cannot go perfectly.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

In 2027, course has been revised and the half marathon Marathon has been added.
The Vermont City Marathon was founded in Burlington in 1989 by a few local runners who believed that “Vermont could host a major New England–caliber marathon.” The inaugural race attracted 414 marathon finishers and 125 five-person relay teams,
and is recognized as one of the first events in the United States to stage a marathon and relay race side by side.
Course starts and finishes at Burlington Waterfront Park and consists of two laps of the same route.
The course passes the downtown landmark Church Street Marketplace,
and about 10 miles follow a bike path along Lake Champlain, with views of the Adirondack Mountains.
Today, it is regarded as one of New England’s three major marathons held annually over Memorial Day weekend.
The event is known to attract more than 5,000 participants, 20,000 spectators, and 800 volunteers.
It is also described as one of the largest marathon relay events in the United States and Vermont’s largest single-day sporting event.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Burlington Union Station (Amtrak Ethan Allen Express), at the head of Main Street on the Lake Champlain waterfront
Start and finish are both at Waterfront Park (College St/Lake St), immediately adjacent to Burlington Union Station; the separate Amtrak Vermonter service stops in nearby Essex Junction, not at Union Station itself. Local Green Mountain Transit (GMT) buses also serve downtown Burlington within walking distance.
Note: race is now branded 'M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon' (sponsor renamed from KeyBank) but is the same event
Same as start — Waterfront Park, next to Burlington Union Station
Finish is at Waterfront Park; free street parking/garages within 3/4 mile are available on race-day Sundays.
Organizer runs shuttle buses on race day between Waterfront Park and the DoubleTree hotel (5:30-7:00 AM and 11:45 AM-3:00 PM) and between Church/Main Street and the DoubleTree (7:00 AM-11:45 AM); open to both runners and spectators.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The race is held every year on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, and the 2027 race starts at 7:15 AM on May 30 at Burlington Waterfront Park.
Organizer RunVermont states that there are no registration fees, so the displayed price is the final amount charged,
and regular registration typically opens in the fall of the previous year.
In the previous year, bib and race-pack pickup took place on Friday afternoon before race day at a sports and fitness expo held at a hotel near Burlington.
