Huangshi, the host city, is an industrial city on the southern bank of the middle Yangtze, where the river makes a broad bend.

It lies 100km southeast of Wuhan at the southeastern edge of Hubei province, bordering Jiangxi.

The city covers 4,583㎢, and gently rolling hills account for most of its terrain.

Huangshi sits in the lake district between Dongting Lake in Hunan and Poyang Lake in Jiangxi,

with dozens of large and small lakes scattered around the urban area.

The highest point reaches 860m above sea level.

The city is set among a mix of rivers, lakes and low hills.
