The road to your own record

The city you want to run becomes your next trip.

THE DREAM
Hokkaido Marathon 2026 is part of the MGC Series 2026–27 (men’s G2/women’s G2) and is organised by the Hokkaido Marathon 2026 Organising Committee.
It offers only the full marathon event, capped at 20,000 runners.
Entrants must be at least 19 years old on race day and able to complete the full marathon within six hours;
high-school students are not eligible.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“This was my comeback race after injuring the meniscus in my left knee, so the time was what I had expected.”
The runner entered this race as a comeback after a left meniscus injury, controlled the pace at around 6 minutes/km, and completed the race in a net time of 4 hours 9 minutes 59 seconds. In 2026, the weather was cool, and the runner ran while monitoring the knee and taking water and energy supplies in the latter stages.

今回は左膝の半月板を損傷した後の復帰レースだったため、想定通りのタイムでした。
Read the original on ともらん!“The heat I had been worried about was not a problem at all; the overcast conditions and 20-degree temperature were ideal.”
After missing the cutoff in 2025, the runner continued training and tried again at the 2026 Hokkaido Marathon. They wrote that it was overcast on race day, with temperatures of 20°C.

心配していた暑さも、全く問題なく気温20度、曇りのベストコンディションだった。
Read the original on note“The support from the consulate was the most reassuring pacer and the factor that made me shake pace.”
The runner followed a strategy of maintaining 6 minutes 30 seconds per km for the first 30 km and then increasing the pace. The support gave the runner strength, but the runner also controlled the pace and finished in 4 hours 26 minutes, about 29 minutes faster than the previous year.

コンサドーレの応援が最大のペースメーカー兼ペース乱し。
Read the original on note“It was a moment when I keenly felt how much encouragement can help.”
In 2025, the runner was unable to finish because they got caught at the 25 km time limit, but trained again and finished in 5 hours 26 minutes in 2026. The runner experienced knee pain and had to walk during the second half, and said that the support from their family and the people around them gave them great strength.

応援って本当に力になるんだなと、つくづく実感した瞬間だった。
Read the original on note“The gel went down the wrong way, and I choked. I kept coughing—really badly.”
When an early-race energy gel went down the wrong way and made it difficult to breathe, the runner even considered withdrawing, but continued the race after drinking water at the aid station. The runner finished at the finish line amid headwinds on Shinkawa Street and encouragement in the latter stages. The runner's gun time was 2 hours 54 minutes 58 seconds.

ジェルが気管に入ってしまい、むせる、むせる、とにかくむせる。
Read the original on ハシルコト北海道“I withdrew during the race.”
The runner started despite the heat and insufficient training and passed the 30 km checkpoint, but ran out of fuel and withdrew around 33 km.

途中リタイア!
Read the original on 東京ランニング“My time was 2 hours 58 minutes 54 seconds.”
The runner’s pace dropped after 30 km because of the heat typical of summer races, but they used the aid stations and cooling facilities to finish in under 3 hours.
Quoted from the original · translated
“Thanks to that, I enjoyed running while receiving plenty of support.”
The runner completed the 2025 Hokkaido Marathon in 3 hours 47 minutes 51 seconds. In temperatures of 22–26°C, the runner suddenly ran out of energy after 30 km and their left foot stiffened, but they enjoyed the Shinkawa-dori section and the support from the crowds and kept their time under 4 hours.

でもおかげで沢山声援を頂き、楽しく走れました。
Read the original on ともぴ@くまモン時々ドラえもん帽子ランナーのブログ“I just managed to finish under 3 hours 30 minutes.”
This is a participant report detailing the experience before and after the race. The runner began at a pace aimed at finishing in under 3 hours, but the pace slowed significantly from around 30 km onward because of the heat, humidity and monotonous straight sections, and the runner also walked at times. The runner started running again at the end and just managed to finish in under 3 hours 30 minutes.

かろうじてサブ3.5だけは死守しました。
Read the original on Run for Fun“It was the toughest race I have ever run, and I think I would have given up if it had been any more difficult.”
The runner finished the 2025 Hokkaido Marathon with an actual time of 5 hours 49 minutes 49 seconds. It was extremely difficult because of the summer heat and the lack of long-distance training, and the runner came away feeling that long runs are important for preparing both physically and mentally.
Quoted from the original · translated
自分的には過去一キツいというか、もう一押し「自分の中での妥協ポイント」があればリタイアしてたなぁという回になりました。
Read the original on note“My final result was 2:55:44 (average 4 minutes 10 seconds/km).”
Despite the heat, the runner maintained their pace early on, adjusted their pace after 30 km and finished in 2:55:44.
Quoted from the original · translated
最終結果は2:55:44(平均4’10/km)。
Read the original on ハシルコト北海道“The cola and pouring water over myself really woke me up!”
The runner completed the Sapporo full marathon in a net time of 3:24:24. They kept taking water and pouring it over themselves in the heat, while the headwind on Shinkawa-dori was tough. The cola from the private aid station and the continuous encouragement carried the runner through, and near the end they picked up the pace and crossed the finish line smiling.

Both the start and finish are at Odori Nishi 4-chome (大通西4丁目, on Sapporo Ekimae-dori).
The course follows Susukino → Hōsuidōri → Horohirabashi → Nakanoshimadōri → Shiroishi·Moiwadōri → Hiragishidōri → Sōseigawadōri (創成川通, partly through a tunnel) → Miyanomori·Kita 24-jōdōri → Shinkawadōri → Kotoni·Sakaemachidōri → Shinkotoni 2-jōdōri → Nishino·Tonden-dōri → return along Shinkawadōri → Hokkaido University → the forecourt of the Former Hokkaido Government Office → the street in front of Sapporo Station → Odori Nishi 4-chome.
It is a certified course under the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, World Athletics and AIMS.
Wave start is used: Wave 1 starts at 8:30 (about 11,000 runners), and Wave 2 at 8:45 (about 9,000).
Official results (gun time) are measured from each wave's starting gun.
Overall rankings use gun time, while age-group rankings use net time.
Wave 2 runners who start with Wave 1 are disqualified.
Cutoff times are based on the Wave 2 start at 8:45.
The cut-offs are 9:05 at 1.2km, 9:35 at 5km, 10:15 at 10km, 10:55 at 15km, 11:35 at 20km, 12:15 at 25km, 12:55 at 29.8km, 13:35 at 34.7km, 14:20 at 40km, 14:35 at 41.5km (north gate of the government office) and 14:45 at the finish,
giving a total time limit of 6 hours.
Course has 19 water stations, 10 sports-drink stations, four sponge stations, four food stations and 32 toilets.
The Sōsei Tunnel is near 9.5km, while Shinkawadōri is an out-and-back section of about 13km.
There are no aid stations between 11.1km and 15.5km, so the gap between aid stations is longer there than elsewhere.

Organizers may also add new cutoff points or move cutoff times earlier immediately before the start.
