The Miraculous Pine Tree Marathon connects the central city of Rikuzentakata,
Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and the remains of the earthquake and tsunami in course.
Half marathon runs through the city center, passes near the miraculous pine tree from which the race is named,
and returns to places that preserved traces of the disaster.
The organizers introduce the new course as the flat course that goes around the central city area and the disaster site.
On the road, the city's daily life and a space of remembrance are connected.
In half marathon, it also passes the section above the seawall facing the sea.
The official guide explains that the view opens along the high embankment, and from places overlooking the sea,
you can overlook the Hirota Peninsula and Karakuwa Peninsula, marine aquaculture facilities, and the pine forest regeneration project area.
Instead of passing by the coast as a simple background, course comes into view with the embankment between the sea and the city and the forest being restored.
The place overlooking the sea in Takata Matsubara Tsunami Recovery Memorial Park is a place to commemorate the victims of the disaster.
The competition secretariat requests that you slow down around this area, walk slowly, and be silent.
This section requires both running speed and an attitude of remembrance.
Another feature of the competition is the activity of local residents greeting and cheering participants on the roadside.
Half marathon and short distance events will be held in the same area to provide an opportunity for citizens and foreign participants to meet.
The excitement of passing through the central city and the calmness of passing through the coastal memorial space coexist within one competition.
