It was the first race in Nagano Prefecture to open a full marathon to general participants.

The course follows rural scenery at the foot of the Northern Alps, passing the autumn-colored foothills and Lake Kizaki before returning to the start.
Full marathon is 42.195km, half marathon is 21.0975km,
and the 10km are all Japan Association of Athletics Federations-certified course, with distance markers every 1km.
The race has been held since 1983, making 2026 its 43rd edition.
It was also the first full marathon in Nagano Prefecture open to community runners.
Full marathon has a highest elevation of 862m and a lowest elevation of 645m, for an elevation difference of 217m.
It is a scenic certified course, but its course is not aimed solely at flat, fast times, and full marathon has aid station 7 locations.

Venue is Omachi City Sports Park Athletics Stadium, ~10 minutes by car from JR Shinano-Omachi Station. From Tokyo: Shinkansen to Nagano (~100 min) then onward, or Chuo Line Shinjuku-Matsumoto (~2h40m) + Oito Line Matsumoto-Shinano-Omachi (~60 min).

Because the course climbs and descends 217m at the foot of the Northern Alps,
it is best to choose layered clothing so you can handle changes in how you feel before the start and while running.
If you are full marathon, it is a good idea to make a supply plan based on the 7 aid station locations.
After the finish, apples, mushroom soup, tofu, and more are provided.
The venue is 10 minutes by car from JR Shinano-Omachi Station, and a free shuttle bus runs between the station and the event parking lot.
It will be easier to get around if you choose lodging with priority given to access to the station and the shuttle.
Participants with a Japanese domestic address will receive their bib and timing chip by mail up to 4 weeks before the event,
and will start without registration on the day before or the day of the race.
For the 2026 event, all divisions reached capacity and registration closed, with 1,200 each for the full and half marathon races, and 500 for the 10km.
