THE DREAM
The Walkers Cayman Islands Marathon, held on the first Sunday of December each year in George Town, Cayman Islands,
was established in 2002 by local resident Tara Godfrey to raise funds for the newly formed Cayman Islands Cadet Corps.
The following year, Kelly Holding (KHL) took over race operations,
and the event was renamed under its current name with the aim of becoming an international destination marathon.
It consists of full marathon, half marathon, a four-person relay, and a children’s Fun Run.
Both the full and half marathon distances are certified by World Athletics and AIMS and are recognised as Boston Marathon qualifying races.
More than 1,500 runners take part each year, supported by 300 volunteers.

Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“And the finish felt great!”Sandy Hugill finished the 2014 Cayman Islands Marathon despite hot, humid weather and late neck and shoulder pain. Arriving just beyond time limit, Sandy appreciated the food and massages still available, the well-stocked aid station and the volunteers' encouragement.
“Its fabulous running in the dark for the first +-1h15 or so.”Starting at 5 a.m. in humid conditions, the runner placed 26th overall and fifth among men aged 40–49 in their sixth Cayman Islands half marathon. Despite a difficult summer of training, they were happy with the result and fondly remembered the lively aid station and encouragement from volunteers.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

Seafarers Way, George Town (in front of Bayshore Mall)
No public transit in Grand Cayman geared to this; foreign runners should walk/taxi/rideshare into downtown George Town or use the race's own free park-and-ride shuttle. Shuttle runs continuously 3:30 AM-12:30 PM race morning (start is 4:30 AM) with pickup points at Hotel Indigo, Governors Village, Westin Resort & Spa, Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, and the Kirk Supermarket parking lot.
Do not park along the route or in church lots; usable downtown lots include Waterfront Centre, CIBC FirstCaribbean, Elizabethan Square, and the Government Administration Building. Confirmed for the 2026 edition (Dec 6, 2026).
Same location as start — Seafarers Way/Bayshore Mall, George Town
Out-and-back course via South Church Street, South Sound, Old Prospect Road to the Prospect Point turnaround, then back via Walkers Road, Hinds Way, Academy Way, Hospital Road and Elgin Avenue. Spectators can also ride the shuttle buses back to the same hotel pickup points after the race.
Yes — free official park-and-ride shuttle bus service running 3:30 AM-12:30 PM race morning, looping between the start/finish and major hotels (Hotel Indigo, Governors Village, Westin, Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Marriott) plus the Kirk Supermarket lot. George Town has no scheduled public bus service usable at 3-4 AM, so the shuttle or a taxi/rideshare from your hotel is the realistic option.
Public transport is a private minibus system (privately owned, government-regulated), cash-only, with fares roughly CI$2-2.50 for short trips up to CI$8 for longer routes like Cayman Kai. Drivers carry change but it may not be in your preferred currency, so bring small bills.
All routes converge at the George Town Public Transport Terminal on Edward Street.

Early December marks the start of the Caribbean dry season.
Daytime highs reach around 28°C, while rainfall and humidity are lower than during the summer wet season.
The north-east trade winds can make it feel slightly cooler,
but temperatures remain in the mid-20s Celsius even before dawn, so runners should prepare for humid conditions.
Course itself is completely flat, with almost no elevation change,
making it accessible and potentially favourable for runners targeting a Boston Marathon qualifying time.
The start and finish are on the George Town waterfront, within easy reach of hotels and attractions.
Times are local to George Town. Check the latest official information before the race.
