THE DREAM
Held in Betsukai, Hokkaido.
Japan's highest fresh milk producing region;
runners pass through farmland and receive local specialty products.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I reached the finish running at an almost steady pace.”
Despite the heat, strong winds, and several mistakes at the aid stations, the runner maintained pace and finished in 3:03:41. The runner recorded that, for the first time, the full course was run without stopping.

The runner tackled the Betsukai Pilot Marathon with pain in the toes and hamstrings. After a brief stop for cramps at 28km, the runner persevered through the remaining 14km and received a salmon as a finisher’s gift.

A traditional full marathon race in Betsukai, Hokkaido.
Betsukai is a rural dairy-farming town in Hokkaido with no train station. Access is via Nakashibetsu Airport (approximately 40 minutes by car) or Kushiro Airport (approximately 2 hours by car).
Allow significant travel time—it is one of the most remote host towns in this group. There will be traffic restrictions on the day of the competition, and a free shuttle bus will operate within the village.
Paid shuttle bus, departs Kushiro Station at 6:00 and Kushiro Airport (釧路空港); Return flight 15:00/16:30
Two types of shuttle are available: (1) a paid shuttle bus between Kushiro/Nakashibetsu and Betsukai, and (2) a free local shuttle bus operating on multiple routes on the day before, day of, and day after the race.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
General participants of the Betkai competition can take the pre-delivered bib and go to the sports center and community gym.
On-site registration is only required for aid runners, and competition programs are accepted at the gym.
Full marathon and 2.195km start in front of the entrance to the village athletics stadium,
and 5km start near the entrance to the camp square, so you must travel according to your event.
Changing rooms and luggage storage are provided within the event venue facilities.
There is no separate service for storing valuables, so it is best to prepare them separately from luggage storage.
Personal special drinks are not accepted.
After completing the race, those eligible for awards will be guided to a tent near the finals.
Participants heading to Kushiro can use the paid competition shuttle bus departing from the airport or JR Kushiro Station.
There are separate flights the day before, the same day, and a return flight after completing the course,
so you can choose a ride that connects with the flight or train.
A same-day paid bus to Nakashibetsu is also scheduled.
Travel planning can be simplified by choosing accommodations close to the Betkai event venue or basing your travel plan on the route you take the bus from Kushiro Station.
Times are local to Betsukai. Check the latest official information before the race.
