At 3,650m above sea level, this is half marathon in Lhasa, one of the world’s highest capital-level cities.

Starting at the Autonomous Region Convention Center, runners follow the Lhasa River before reaching finish at Potala Palace Square.

One of the world’s highest half marathon, it filled all 4,000 places within three minutes of registration opening.

The event features a single half marathon, starting at 9:00 a.m. from the Convention Center Square.

Course follows a point-to-point route via Yingqin Bridge, Nanshan Park and the Lhasa River promenade, finishing at Potala Palace Square.

Registration is first come, first served, with a 4,000-runner limit.

The 2026 race was highly competitive, selling out within three minutes of opening.

Entry fee start at 150 yuan.

Getting to the start

Start line: 西藏自治区会展中心广场 (Tibet Autonomous Region Convention & Exhibition Center Square), Chengguan District, Lhasa.

Confirmed on the official Lhasa municipal government site (official participant guide, published 2026-08-18): venue and time 2026-08-23 9:00 AM.

No official shuttle bus service was found in the official participant guide or the press-conference transcript.

Bib/packet pickup is held 8/21-8/22 at 柳梧万达广场 (Liuwu Wanda Plaza) — a separate location from the start line, runners must arrange their own transport there.

Extensive road closures affect numerous streets around the start/finish per an official police announcement.

Lhasa has no metro;

city buses accept UnionPay QuickPass contactless tap payment, the UnionPay app QR ride code,

or Alipay/WeChat QR mini-program payment, in addition to a local transit IC card.

Given the high altitude, many visitors also rely on taxis for race-day logistics rather than the bus network.

Lhasa is accessible by the Qinghai–Tibet Railway or Gonggar Airport, with city buses serving the race venue.

At 3,650m, half marathon is completely different from racing at sea level —

arrive at least 3–4 days early for altitude acclimatisation, and a much more conservative pace than usual is essential.

UV levels are extremely strong, so sun protection is a must.
