“I felt great about setting personal best in my first attempt.”
As a KEEP event experience writer, they took part in the Qiandao Lake full marathon for the first time, ran the hilly and scenic course, and set a personal best approximately seven minutes faster than their Shanghai race time.

Read the original on 什么值得买“Why did I keep running to the end? Because the finish would still be there after the event was over.”
This runner struggled with cold and stomach trouble at the Qiandao Lake Marathon, but kept running alone after a companion boarded the Sweep Vehicle. Rationing the remaining mandarins, the runner pushed beyond 41km to finish and reunite with friends waiting at the finish.

RACE WEEK

From the 2025 editionWe have not confirmed the start line coordinates yet. The map shows the host city.
The Qiandao Lake Marathon is held around Qiandao Lake (Thousand Island Lake) in Chun'an County,
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and has held a Chinese Athletics Association Gold Label since 2019.
The 2026 race is on Sunday, November 29, with 15,000 runners: 4,000 in the marathon and 11,000 in the half marathon.
The entry fee is 200 yuan for both races.
In 2026 the course changes significantly, reaching the northeast lake area for the first time and increasing the lakeside running by more than 50 percent.
The marathon is point-to-point: it starts at Xiushui Square, crosses Yangguang Road and Qiandao Lake Bridge,
follows the Chunkai and Huanzuo roads, passes Wangzhai Bridge,
Yeqi No. 2 Bridge and Fengmao Bridge deep into the northeast lake area,
then runs via the greenway on the north side of the Fengmao Peninsula, the Xinchun road and Qiandao Lake Avenue to finish near Qingxi.
The half marathon loops via Qiandao Lake Bridge, the Chunkai and Huanzuo roads and Jinxianwan Bridge back to Xiushui Square.
Up to the 2025 race, it was an out-and-back course from Xiushui Square along the Chunyang road across Shangjiangbu Bridge and back,
with a single start at 7:30 a.m. Under the rules then,
there were water and drink stations about every 2.5km from 5km,
and bags had to be dropped in the start area by 7:15 a.m. The minimum age was 20 for the marathon and 16 for the half marathon, as of the race year.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Based on the 2025 race regulations, participants must bring a valid government-issued photo ID and register and collect their packet at the designated pickup location for pre-race pickup (Packet Pickup); proxy pickup for the participant packet is not allowed.
The pickup time and location will be announced separately before the race.
Link your foreign Visa/Mastercard/JCB to Alipay (or WeChat Pay) and use the app's transit/ride-code (乘车码) feature to scan a QR code at metro and bus gates — Hangzhou does not yet support true tap-to-pay with foreign bank cards.
Xiushui Square (Qiandao Lake, Chun'an, Hangzhou)
All categories (marathon/half-marathon/fun run) start and finish at Xiushui Square.
Xiushui Square - same as start
Official rules state rolling, time-limited road closures for public traffic, roads reopened section by section after each checkpoint cutoff passes.
No specific closure times/routes published.
Runners who withdraw mid-race may take organizer assistance vehicles or public transit to finish.
The official site is qiandaohu.zjim.org (the old qdhmarathon.com domain is dead).
Rules cited are from the 2025-11-30 edition.

Alternative: Hangzhou Metro Tourist Pass (via Hangzhou Metro App) ¥15 (1-day) / ¥40 (3-day) / ¥60 (5-day) / ¥80 (7-day), unlimited rides —
Worth it if you'll take 4+ metro rides per day of your stay;
for a short visit with only 1-2 trips a day, pay-per-ride via Alipay QR is cheaper.
As of August 2026 there is no confirmed rollout of EMV contactless tap-to-pay for foreign bank cards in Hangzhou (unlike Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu).
The realistic option is Alipay or WeChat Pay set up with a foreign card, using the in-app transit QR code on both metro and buses.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The 2026 race is on Sunday, November 29, with 15,000 runners: 4,000 in the marathon and 11,000 in the half marathon.
Both start at Xiushui Square in Chun'an County, Zhejiang Province, but the marathon is point-to-point,
ending on Qiandao Lake Avenue near Qingxi, and only the half marathon returns to Xiushui Square.
The course follows the lakeside roads of Qiandao Lake, with mountains and water in view together.
Under the 2025 rules, water and drink stations were set about every 2.5km from the 5km mark.
Times are local to Hangzhou City. Check the latest official information before the race.
